The Rationale for NECTA

NECTA was established as a result of the determination of the country to assume full responsibility for all examinations within the United Republic of Tanzania with a view to maintaining quality assurance. By administering all National Examinations, NECTA manages to monitor the quality of education provided. In this way NECTA protects the nation from ill-qualified students emerging from disreputable education providers. The assessment and monitoring of the quality of education provided is crucial to a country’s social and economic development.

Achievements of NECTA

For the past 34 years the vast majority of students who passed National Examinations administered by NECTA have compared very favourably with students from any other part of the world. They have been able to follow undergraduate studies, Masters and even doctorate studies offered by different universities worldwide. As a result, NECTA’s certificates enjoy recognition in many parts of the world.  This is as it should be. With the ever increasing number of schools and with very limited resources, NECTA is now facing formidable challenges. NECTA will definitely need the support of all stakeholders.
